Focus: Orangutan: A Day in the Rainforest Canopy
This week we have planned some of our activities around the story 'Orangutan: A Day in the Rainforest Canopy.' This story links with last week's story where Max and Rosie managed to find the Orangutan's at the end of the book. You can find the story on the link below:

Below is a Jungle writing stimulus. Can you write a few sentences about what you can see in this picture? There is an example on there for you.
As an additional writing challenge this week, we've taken a screenshot from this weeks Numberblocks video for your child to write about.
Phonics
This week we are going to be learning 'ur' and 'er'. Here are two videos to help you with this.

Maths
This week in Maths we are looking at doubling numbers. Some of these activities and links look at doubles up to 10, however we tend to focus on getting the children to learn doubles to 5 off by heart in Foundation Stage. If they can go further and learn up to 10 then brilliant :) but if not don't worry as they will cover this again.
To begin our learning about doubling numbers we'd like you to watch this episode of Numberblocks called 'Double Trouble'. You can find the link to the episode below:

Here is the guidance we use from White Rose full of fun ideas/activities that you can do with your child to support their learning when doubling numbers.

Here are some more activities that you can do at home in this activity booklet. You can print it out and work through or if you don't have access to a printer, you could draw the domino/butterfly templates and work through it with your child.

Finally, here are some more doubling problems that can be worked through at home. Children will need help from an adult with these activities as they are written as word problems. The wording of these can be changed if the children are struggling with them.

Topic
Following on from the video, we would like you to write down two new facts that you have learnt and we would like you to draw a picture to go with these.
A major threat to Rainforests and Orangutans is Deforestation. This PowerPoint explains the importance of Rainforests and Deforestation.
Creative
This week we would like to have a go at creating some 'Kadinsky' inspired art work. The document below shows you some of his work and will give you some ideas of how you might create yours.
We would like you to listen to this piece of music that has lots of different sounds of the Rainforest. While you're listening, we would like you to draw your own Rainforest pictures, thinking about the different sounds you can hear and what you have learnt during this topic.
