Thinking Trailblazer award:
Each week, children who display fantastic thinking and use their thinking moves, are awarded a Thinking Trailblazer in our weekly celebration assembly. At our school, we love to celebrate the successes and achievements of all our children. Each week, pupils are recognised through our Celebration Assembly, which highlight the attitudes, effort, and progress that make learning meaningful. These awards give us the opportunity to share and celebrate children’s accomplishments with the whole school community, helping to build confidence, pride, and motivation.
Alongside celebrating success, we place a strong focus on helping children understand how they learn. Metacognitive strategies—thinking about thinking—are used in every classroom to encourage pupils to plan, monitor, and reflect on their own learning. From asking, “What do I already know?” before starting a task, to checking progress during a lesson, and finally reflecting on “What went well and what could I do differently?”, our children are developing the skills to become independent, resilient learners.
By combining our Thinking Trailblazer awards with these everyday metacognitive approaches, such as Thinking Moves, we ensure children feel proud of their achievements while also gaining the tools to become lifelong learners who understand themselves and their learning journey.
