At Onchan School we are continually developing our outdoor learning skills and use of our own 'Outdoor Learning Environment'. Classes have dedicated time each week outside and the children are allowed to wear their 'muddy clothes' on these days. The types of activities that take place in our outdoor area include; creating shelters, exploring the biodiversity and wildlife, creating bug hotels, cooking over an open fire, toasting marshmallows and whittling. As well as this area, we often take trips within our local area, to Molly Quirk's Glen and Onchan Wetlands to take part in lessons outside.
Of course 'Outdoor Learning' doesn't just include forest school activities. As a school we are always looking for opportunities in the curriculum to take learning outside. Please see our individual class pages for examples of this in our year group galleries.
