The individual needs of children will, in the vast majority of cases, be met within the classroom by the class teacher and the support staff. However, occasionally a child may be identified as having additional needs which are having an impact on the child's education. In such situations, the school’s Special Educational Needs Co- ordinator (SENCo) works with the class teacher to provide advice and support in meeting these additional needs.
With consent from parents, observations, assessments/screeners may be undertaken to gather further information about the child’s specific needs. A plan to address the additional needs is then put in place. The school will keep parents informed of the provision their child receives and the progress made.
The school SENCo, where necessary, will make referrals to outside agencies, such as: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT), Isle Listen and the Educational Psychology team.
