INTEGRITY - RESPECT - ENDEAVOUR - COMPASSION - COURAGE
Year One had an absolutely wonderful and memorable day at the farm! We began our adventure by carefully following our map all the way from Onchan School to Knockaloe Beg Farm. Along the journey, we had to stay alert and look out for important landmarks to make sure we were heading in the right direction. It was a fantastic way to practise the skills we have been developing in geography of navigation.
Once we arrived at the farm, we put our science learning into action by observing and investigating the different mammals living there. We looked closely at their features and talked about what makes each animal unique. The sheep were especially friendly and seemed very pleased to see us—they even came right over to greet us! We then applied our geography skills by designing our own maps of the farm, using our “observe” thinking move to help us notice key details and represent them clearly.
After lunch, we had the exciting opportunity to meet Farmer John and Farmer Jen. They guided us around the farm and taught us all about the animals they care for. We were lucky enough to cuddle lambs, gently stroke piglets, hold the hens and help feed the livestock. We even got to ride together in a trailer, which was so much fun!
By the time we headed home, we were all very tired after such a busy and exciting day. There were some very sleepy bumblebees on the bus ride back - it's a good job it's the holidays!
