INTEGRITY - RESPECT - ENDEAVOUR - COMPASSION - COURAGE
KS1 had a fantastic day out at Groudle Railway as part of our learning linked to Onchan School's 150th Anniversary celebrations. This year is particularly special for Groudle Railway as it's celebrating its 130th anniversary, making it the perfect opportunity for our children to experience a piece of local history.
To begin our adventure, each Year 1 child was paired with a Year 2 buddy. Together, we walked all the way from school to Groudle Railway!
When we arrived, we were very lucky to experience a train ride to the Sea Lion Rocks café area. The children were excited to travel on the oldest train currently operating on the railway, giving them a real insight into what transport was like in the past.
At Sea Lion Rocks, the railway volunteers shared information about the history of Groudle Railway. The children learned about the Polar Bears, Sea Lions and Bear Cub that were once housed there, as well as the different trains that have run on the railway over the years. It was a wonderful way to bring our learning to life and help the children understand more about the local history connected to our anniversary celebrations.
The children were fantastic throughout the day. They showed enthusiasm, listened carefully, asked thoughtful questions and walked an impressive distance with smiles on their faces. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience and came away with lots of wonderful memories and new knowledge about our local heritage. A huge thank you to the volunteers at Groudle Railway for making our visit so enjoyable and informative.
