ONCHAN SCHOOL

INTEGRITY - RESPECT - ENDEAVOUR - COMPASSION - COURAGE

On Friday, four of our Year 5 students (along with Mr Higgins) were invited to the Legislative Buildings in Douglas to attend the Fair Trade Conference hosted by the charity, One World.

We ran a Fair Trade poster competition to decide who the lucky attendees would be.

In the morning, we took part in an introductory talk, introducing us to the concept of Fair Trade. We then took part in two workshops. The first session explored Fair Trade around the world, looking at where Fair Trade produce comes from. We then moved into the Tynwald Chamber and took part in a fantastic debate about whether it is fair that Fair Trade chocolate is more expensive than regular chocolate. The students did amazingly well in this session.

After a delicious lunch, we had a session about all things Fair Trade chocolate! This was followed by a session entitled Tea & Fair Trade Premium.

We had an amazing day and have learnt lots about Fair Trade. The students were a credit to Onchan School.
