As part of our 150th Anniversary KS1 were learning about 'communication' this week. They learnt that if you wanted to send a message to someone it didn't just come instantly like lots of e-mails and text messages do now, people had to write them by hand and post them. We were also lucky enough to have a special visitor come into to school to talk to us about the IOM Post Office. Billy Crowe has worked for the IOM Post Service for 27 years and talked to the children about how the systems have changed over time, with lots more machines available to do the sorting of letters and parcels, but back 100-150yrs ago all this had to be done by hand! The children asked some super questions and were really surprised how far some of the post men (because girls didn't do the job a long time ago) had to walk to the deliver the post to everyone's houses.
