We will be continually updating this page.

EYFS Curriculum and ELGs

Here is a copy of our EYFS curriculum with the Early Learning Goals (ELGs) highlighted in green. Children are expected to achieve these ELGs in each area by the end of their year in Foundation Stage.

Writing

Please continue to encourage independent writing and drawing at home. You could ask your child to write a list, a letter to a family member, a birthday card or write about a drawing they have done.

The following document shows the order in which we teach children how to correctly form their letters.

Letter Formation

This 'I Spy' picture sheet is one we find useful for the children to practise sounding out and writing simple CVC words. We have also used this resource to build into writing simple sentences beginning with 'I can see...'.

The following document can be used as prompts for writing.

Simple Sentence Prompts

The following documents have a picture stimulus if the children feel confident to write sentences on a more independent basis.

Reading

Please continue to encourage your child to read through their reading books and support them to develop their comprehension by talking to your child about the story, characters and events.

We understand that if you are in self-isolation you will be unable to change your child's reading books, so therefore we ask that you read other books and material you have at home.

Here is a useful link to Phonics Play Comics which can be read online: https://www.phonicsplaycomics.co.uk/comics.html.

The following document has questions that you could ask before, during and after reading.

Maths

Here is a link to the White Rose Spring Guidance for Foundation Stage. We have used this document to guide our planning this year. We have covered all sections in this document apart from the 'Shape and Space' section at the end. Please feel free to repeat any of the suggested activities in the other sections with the children to consolidate and embed their knowledge.

Click here to find the White Rose Summer Guidance for Foundation Stage. Again we would be using this document to guide our planning this coming term. This content is not something which has already been covered in school, however the children will be building upon previously learnt skills as they handle larger numbers (11-20).

Also here is a lovely website which has lots of interactive games that your child can play to practise their Maths skills - Top Marks

Numberblocks

We use the Numberblocks videos to support our Maths learning. You can find all of the videos on the BBC iPlayer by clicking here.

Number Formation

Children can use these strips to practise their number formation to 20.

Counting

The following activities can be used to practise counting irregular arrangements of objects.

Counting an irregular arrangement to 5

Counting an irregular arrangement to 10

Counting an irregular arrangement to 20

Below we've uploaded flashcards that can be printed (or copied if you don't have access to a printer) to help the children with their subitising skills. Subitising is a skill whereby the children are able to recognise the total number of objects (in this case dots) without having to count each one individually. Find out more about subitising here.

You may find that your child needs to count each dot individually and that is absolutely fine - this is a new skill which needs to be practised and does not need to be secure by the end of Foundation Stage. We would suggest starting with the cards that show numbers up to 5 initially.

Subitising Flashcards

Addition & Subtraction

Below are some number sentence cards which can be used by the children to practise their addition and subtraction skills. They do not have to be printed out and can just be displayed on a screen for the children to see. The children can use whichever method they wish to solve the number sentences whether it be using physical objects (marbles, Lego pieces, etc), using their fingers or using the part-whole model (also posted below).

Tip: Make sure your child pays close attention to whether it is an addition number sentence with the + sign or a subtraction number sentence with the - sign.
