We spent lots of time today learning about why Remembrance Day is so important and about WW1. All of the children asked thoughtful questions and really engaged with the various activities they had to complete. We began by working through lots of information as a class including general WW1 facts, rationing, women's role in the war and air raid shelters. Next, we made Trench Cake together and we all took some home to try, none of us thought the mix looked or smelled nice though!
We then moved on to individual activities and we went away to our tables and worked together if needed. Our activities were to create a gas mask, design and explain a peace poppy and place a clothes order using a ration book.
We all enjoyed these activities and learned a lot about what life was like during WW1.
