Onchan School

"Learning is a journey, to be taken together, one step at a time."

As part of the centenary celebrations to mark the end of World War 1, some of our children created bunting which was to be added to that already on display at Onchan Library. This was also in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of the Onchan branch of the Royal British Legion. The children created their own designs incorporating family photographs of service men and women, poems, quotes, poppies, silhouettes and war images. The bunting will be on display in the library until Wednesday 14th November.

Children from across Years 2 and 5 visited Onchan Library to look at all of the bunting that has been made to celebrate the end of World War 1. They looked around the library with admiration and asked thoughtful questions about the memorabilia on display. They had a go at the library’s war poster hunt, which was trickier than we expected but lots of fun! Finally, they sat and discussed a WW1 non-fiction book with local illustrator Quinn Shipton.

We would like to say a big thank you to the library for welcoming us and providing us with a beautiful thank you card and donated books for our class libraries.

Have a look at the following Gallery albums to see some of the bunting and our visit.
